What is the difference between Arabic translation and full RTL support?

Translation swaps the words. Full right-to-left support mirrors the layout: navigation, tables, form labels, icons and progress steps all flip, so the interface reads naturally from the right rather than looking like an English screen with Arabic words in it.

Should each user choose their own language?

Yes. A property team is usually mixed, and the tenants and visitors scanning codes are more likely to want Arabic than the head office is. Language should be per person, not one setting for the whole company.

Arabic property management software: what “full RTL” actually means

Any vendor can hand you a translated menu. The question is whether the layout turns around — and whether the person scanning a code in your car park gets Arabic too.

In Jordan and the Gulf, "does it support Arabic?" is usually answered with a yes that means "we have a translation file". That is the easy half. The half that decides whether your team actually uses the software is the layout.

Translation is words. RTL is the whole screen.

In a right-to-left interface the reading order reverses, and everything anchored to it has to move with it:

Navigation and panels swap sides; a sidebar pinned to the left in Arabic feels broken.
Tables start from the right — including the column you sort by and the row actions.
Forms put labels, hints and error messages on the right, and the tab order follows.
Directional icons flip: back arrows, "next" chevrons, progress rails, breadcrumb separators.
Mixed content behaves: an Arabic sentence containing a Latin unit code, an email address or a JOD amount should not scramble.
Numbers and dates stay consistent — pick Western or Arabic-Indic digits and use them everywhere, not per screen.
Printed and exported documents — invoices, statements, request logs — need the same treatment, and this is where most products give up.

An eight-point test for your next demo

Ask the salesperson to switch the language while you watch, and check:

Does the whole layout mirror, or only the text?
Can two users in the same account use different languages at the same time?
Do the tenant, guest and staff portals flip too — not just the admin dashboard?
Are system-generated strings translated: statuses, empty states, validation errors, notifications?
Do tables and filters read correctly, including sorting and pagination?
What happens to a PDF or export generated in Arabic?
Are your own words translatable — the categories and labels you create, not only the vendor’s?
On a phone, does the mobile layout mirror as well as the desktop one?

The portals matter more than the dashboard

Your head-office team can cope with an English admin screen. The cleaner reporting a leak, the shopkeeper checking what they owe, the visitor reporting a broken tap — they will not. If the parts of the system that face the building are English-only, adoption stops at the office door, and you are back to phone calls.
